Hello! Interpret the following quote and connect it to one piece of literature that you have read in the past. Remember to include how the quote is connected to the literature, not just the name of the novel. Be insightful!
“Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable, than risk being happy.”
-Robert Anthony

In the Chocolate War Jerry keeps refusing to sell the chocolates even though his friends now tell him it is OK. He does this because he doesn’t want to make everyone happy by selling the chocolates. In the end it ends up making him miserable. Jerry is fighting a power struggle and he is going to lose. Jerry is being very stubborn.

This quote can be related to the story “Stargirl” because people can be in a group of friends that all dress the same, but you don’t really want to dress like that. You still dress like your friends but you’re miserable. You do this just to fit in that same group with all your friends, then rather dress the way you want and be happy. People need to not worry about what people think so much. Why live your life feeling bad. By taking a chance and being your self…much like Stargirl did, people would be happier.

I think this qoute is saying that people rather be like someone just to impress them instead of being thierself and being happy. The book it reminds me of is stargirl because everyone was the same.

The chinese say rashness brings success to few, misfortune to many. Take from this what you will but it means go foward when you are sure of yourself but dont go ahead if the road looks uncertain. I think this is true why put yourself through something you dont want it will still bring misery. I got that from a book of quotes.

In Stargirl Leo makes sure that he is unhappy by refusing to air Stargirl on Hotseat initially. This causes discontent among his fis fellow students because she is such a curiosity. This student body starts harassing him about it. When this harassment gets to be too much he starts to feel like an outsider.

I’m so impressed that you were all able to make that connection between many different novels. Great job. Next, we’ll start connecting TWO different novels to quotes. Keep up the good work!

i think this quote means that some people want to act like other people that are popular. just because the less popular people are smarter than the really popular people doesnt mena that the less popular people dont have friends you need to make choices wheather to have good friends or not.

i think this quote means that its not always a good thing to do something just to be happy or popular. just do something because you think its the right thing to do not to make you happy.

This quote is really meaning if you think that the day couldn’t be worse than it already is than you might as well be happy that it isn’t getting worse.
